Tips from the absolute kings of social media. The Starbucks recipe

Here is someone who knows that ‘give me a facebook app’ is done with a purpose, and not as a marketing gimmick to please the boss. A few tips from Starbucks who gained only 1,8 million fans in August to reach 13 million. But more importantly here is a company that has invested massively in making social media mean business. Worth the time.

Great video on what motivates people, and research proof that it's not bonuses, so what is it then?

Building on yesterday’s Wall Street Journal’s article (link below), here is another piece of thinking that is worth spending some time on. What if money wasn’t the biggest employee motivator, what if management by bonusses was in fact counter productive, stimulating...less results. See this piece of research from the very serious MIT and towards the 5th minute, see what they found was in fact the best stimulant, what makes modern management worth the time. And what gets people really excited.
Can anybody tell Wall Street...
A big thank to Karen and Romain for sharing the link, and putting the pressure on me!

The End of Management

Viral campaign that starts by giving a heart attack

If you dive, you’ll imagine just how it felt to live this campaign, a viral video from Fox Murder that is true murder! One I wouldn’t have wanted to cross in the deep. Here’s to campaigns that we can enjoy seeing, and not because they’re being kind!

(real) Clown gets elected as capital city mayor: fresh political campaign videos.

Here is a rather surprising political party video, one that helped get Jon Gnarr elected as mayor of Reykjavik. Yes in Island they don’t just have volcanoes but explosive politicians as well, well this one is a little like the French Coluche. Only he got elected and is now in charge, and just paraded at the gay pride with a bright yellow bag, blonde wig and red lipstick.
Well that should make for an interesting town!
Before you see this, just one tip: best is the name of his party. See in the second video some of his promises: “I want people to smile more and laugh a lot”. A little different one might say...

Old spice university? That's what it would be like, in video

Here is a very nicely done advert for a US University, playing on the famous old spice commercial. Ladies and grades it seems. Makes it worth a few years doesn’t it?
Bravo for a very nicely done piece of work, and a good dose of sense of humour!

Be careful of the web's new icons. The forgotten souls of corporate responsibility...

This week has seen an unusual new icon appear.
A fake blonded airsteward. Made overnight into a star when after receiving a head bash from a rude client’s bag, decided to bail out, having first insulted the man over the microphone, grabbed a beer and jumped out of the plane but on the emergency slide...

What could appear at first to be a crazy steward you wouldn’t want to see in your plane has made it into the new web star, symbol of exploitation, bad employee management, and finally a new frontier in clients overstepping the line.

Proof? Well here is his new fan page, today close to 180 000 fans (yesterday only 80K), more than many corporations would dream of getting over a long time period... http://www.facebook.com/pages/Steven-Slater/145469768806134?v=wall
And you tube is rallying as well with news coverage songs and opinions, Google shows 441000 offering to the words ‘Steven Slater Jet Blue’.

The lesson? Well it seems to me that while everyone has focussed in on corporate responsibility being recycling bins, and switching the lights  of, most have totally forgotten that it includes a large social component: the people working there. Whether you’re an employee or a client. And I’m not talking about not employing kids in Malaysia or China, but the feeling that corporations are loosing their social responsibility to the human element that composes it. This is not about trade unions behaviour which too often brings a lazy feel. It shows a more profound need for respect and care. Jetblue today is making fun of it, but watch the web space for more to come... http://blog.hellojetblue.com/blog/index.php/2010/08/11/sometimes-the-weird-ne...

The first ever country wide game. Great campaign, in video

Is it that holiday feeling that won’t go away, or the absolute urge to leave the depression of recession for a more fun few years bringing consumers back in shops, and stopping you wonder how much you lost  (or should have) with Mr Madoff. Well here is the new Cadbury campaign urging everyone to come in and join a countrywide game before the Olympics.. Just choose your camp and earn points to see it win. Will you be dots or stripes? The stroy does not tell if people will be able to switch sides towards the end...
